Statement of Faith
We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Defiance Christian Academy, and to provide a biblical role model to all members of our school community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Defiance Christian Academy in any capacity, or who serve as members on the Board of Directors, subscribe annually in writing to the following Statement of Faith, and our parents and volunteers recognize that we believe:
There is one God, who is infinitely perfect, existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).
Jesus Christ is true God and true man. (John 10:33) He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35) He died upon the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice and all who believe in Him in total surrender and commitment are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. (1 Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9). He arose from the dead (John 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:4) and will come again to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11). This is the believer's blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.
The Holy Spirit is sent to indwell, guide, teach, empower the believer, and convince the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 3:16-19, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5).
The Word of God, the Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, is inspired by God and is a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21).
Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God, male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27); he fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death (Genesis 3:17-19).
Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who confess their sin and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God (John 3:16-19, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5).
There shall be a resurrection of the just and unjust (John 5:28-29).
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13-14; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18).
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture (Genesis 2:18-25). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4). We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage.
We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Psalms 139).
We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Defiance Christian Academy.
This Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. The Defiance Christian Academy Board of Directors will determine how to apply this Statement of faith as it relates to Defiance Christian Academy’s doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline.
